As we have noted throughout our series on Laudato si\u2019<\/em>, Pope Francis reminds us that \u201cour common home\u201d is part of \u201ccreation\u201d and has to do with God\u2019s plan \u201cin which every creature has its own value and significance.\u201d Human beings are part of this plan, and alone possess a \u201cuniqueness\u201d that other creatures do not. In the conduct of the global economy, goods are created to service the needs of humanity. The Pope explains that St. John Paul II reaffirmed (see quote below) that God\u2019s plan was that the gift of the Earth was to be used for the good of all.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026the Church does indeed defend the legitimate right to private property, but she also teaches no less clearly that there is always a social mortgage on all private property, in order that goods may serve the general purpose that God gave them. (93)\u201d
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

CBIS\u2019 ongoing efforts around human dignity, social justice and environmental stewardship attempt to help cover the \u201csocial mortgage\u201d that is inherent when corporations seek to do business around the world.
