Catholic Responsible Investing Team Continues to Grow to Address Participant Priorities

CBIS is pleased to announce that its Catholic Responsible Investing (CRI) team continues to grow, with the addition of Marcela Pinilla on June 27 as a Senior Analyst. She will be responsible for a variety of key tasks, including working with CBIS’ investment managers, implementing investment screens, and leading proxy voting. She will also be responsible for select company engagements as we continue to expand our active ownership efforts.

Prior to joining CBIS, Marcela worked as a Director of Shareholder Advocacy at Mercy Investment Services. Previously, she served as an Environment, Social and Governance Analyst at Walden Asset Management. Marcela graduated from Brandeis University with an MBA focused on Sustainable Development and an MS in International Health Policy and Management

“CRI is a strategic priority at CBIS, and our CRI team works closely with the Investment Management Department and our team of leading global investment managers to ensure that Catholic social teaching is fully integrated into the investment process,” said John Geissinger, CIO.

“Our expanded CRI team is positioned to achieve positive impact through our investments and address participant priorities,” said Julie Tanner, Director of Catholic Responsible Investing. “As a leader in the field, we believe Marcela’s extensive experience in socially responsible investing and environmental, social and governance (ESG) integration will help strengthen the policies and practices of companies in our portfolio,” said Julie Tanner, Director of Catholic Responsible Investing.

Marcela joins Julie and Assistant Director Tracey Rembert to bring over 40 years of collective experience in advocacy and corporate responsibility to CBIS. Tracey, who joined in May 2016, has a long track record of success in both U.S. and international corporate engagements covering a range of sustainability issues, including climate change, responsible lending, and labor issues. Julie, who has been with CBIS for 13 years, directed the expansion of the Active Ownership program worldwide by leveraging CBIS’ global footprint as an asset manager and has been instrumental in successful engagements on a range of issues including human rights and climate change.

The growth of our CRI team is a critical component in enhancing the value of our investment process – which includes screening, investing, engaging and servicing. We believe CRI is a great asset to our participants, as it helps Catholic institutions extend their mission through their investments.
